New from Spellbinders and Smash

Here's a quick peek at a few new things here at the Playground.

Spellbinders M-Bossabilities

Spellbinders just came out with new REVERSIBLE embossing folders! They are called M-Bossabilities, and they have some fabulous patterns! They also have 2 sizes, A2 (4 1/4" x 5 1/2") and 5" x 7".
(I may have just found my favorite embossing folder of all time...LOVE!)

This is such a cool idea! You only have to find a place to store 1 folder, but you get 2 patterns. And, if you pair one M-Bossabilities folder with the Easy Frames ....you could  fill a whole afternoon with creative fun!
Stop by and check them out, I'd love to show you how they work.

More SMASH!

EK Success just released some fun new SMASH items, too.  Here are a few that came in this last week, but there is more...so come check it out!

Two new SMASH books...

One for Babies
and one for Weddings

They also added some fun embellishments for your SMASH books...
Magnetic Clips

Page Inserts to add another page or photo to your book.

Plastic Pockets with a zip top closure.

New Top 10 journal cards

DEW DROPS

These aren't new to the crafting world, but they are new to the store.  I have been using them for a few years now and I love the way they jazz up any project. A fun little bit of bling to whatever you are working on.

That's all I've got for now.  I hope you all have a great weekend and see you soon!

Spring Classes

There are Saturday Classes on the schedule again!! Yay!!

Here is a quick update of the upcoming classes and a few photos to entice you. :o)

Call 721-PLAY (7529) or email scrapandplay@rushmore.com  if you want to reserve a spot in any of these classes.

Spring Paper Bag Mini Album
The last paper bag class we did was sooo fun! We had some really fun ladies in that class, and they were interested in doing another, but with some spring color. (I seem to be drawn to very subdued and boring colors) Thank you ladies for pulling me out of my dreary box...because this is what we are making this time:

We will be using Pink Paislee's SPRING JUBILEE to adorn our paper bags. Bright, fun and full of color! What says SPRING better than bright colors, flowers, birds, butterflies and bees??

Okay...I forgot to take a photo of the bee...but it's the coolest bee I've ever seen, and I'm NOT a fan of bees at all.

Class Details
Date: Saturday, March 31st
Time: 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.
Cost: $10
Bring: A paper trimmer that will accommodate 12x12 scrapbook paper, scissors (there is just a tiny bit of fussy cutting),  lots of adhesive and don't forget your sense of humor....we like funny girls!!

Boxed Card Set
This is a great gift idea, and the drawer box is so easy to make you won't even believe it! (seriously, it's the easiest part of the whole project!)

We are going to be making the drawer box, the easel card that is attached to the top and 4 cards to go inside the drawer. I know...more dreary colors, but I fell in love with Graphic 45's Kraft Reflection papers and just had to do something with them! I did add a little pink in there for some color...does that count?

Class Details

Bring: The usual...paper trimmer, scissors, adhesive and pop dots. You will want a strong adhesive to hold your drawer box together.

More paper from Graphic 45 and Pink Paislee

Graphic 45 has a great line of paper called Kraft Reflections. It's pretty low key when it comes to color, but what it lacks in color it makes up in beauty. So very classy and elegant. These papers would be great for any vintage or heritage album you might be working on.

2 new lines from Pink Paislee!

The first is Spring Jubilee...this stuff totally packs the color that the G45 papers were lacking. Bright, vibrant and cheerful!
The Second is Indigo Bleu...great color with some really fun patterns, all with the popular new trend...denim.

You will find all the paper from these two lines at the Playground, along with matching embellishments, stamps and 6x6 paper pads.

Prima Mistable Resist Canvas Shapes

I think these are just plain fun! I love the element of surprise when I am playing, and I love having the freedom to let the products do their thing and see what wonders emerge...that's what happens when I play with these Resist Canvas Shapes. They are canvas shapes with a resisted pattern on them and you can add Distress Ink, Distress Stain, any spray mist, even acrylic paint to them and then watch the resist pop and the color spread and it feels like pure magic. Soooo much fun!
Here is a card I made with the butterfly shapes, on a background I made using a resist technique.

The larger butterfly on the top was colored by using Wild Honey Distress Stain in the middle and then using a blending foam and Dusty Concord Distress Ink smooshed on the edges, then a quick spritz of water to blend the colors (my very favorite property of the Distress Inks) The smaller butterflies have several layers of Distress Ink, Stains and Glimmer Mist with a spritz of water to blend.

There are also a few more shapes I couldn't "resist" playing with. The label shape with the dots was sprayed with Marigold and Burnt Red Glimmer Mist...love the way the colors blended. The ticket was done using Distress Stain daubers...Wild Honey and Broken China. I used Decadence Chalkboard Glimmer Mist on the key.
The white shapes on the top right are what the shapes look like before you play with them. There are over 30 pieces in each pack...so lots to play with and use on scrapbook pages, cards and home decor!

Stop in and peruse the new stuff. It's always good to see you.

What's happening at the Playground

This coming week we have a class, a make and take and a sale! Come Check it out!

Tuesday's Layout Class

There were a few cancellations for this class last time around, so we decided to reschedule.  I've re-posted the photos of the layouts so you don't have to go searching for them. We will be using the My Mind's Eye Kraft Funday "Happy Days" line of papers.
Really fun and playful...great for kids, sports, or parties.

Class Details:
Date: Tuesday, March 6th
Time: 6-9 p.m.
Cost: $15.00
Bring: Paper trimmer, scissors, adhesive and pop dots

Call 721-7529 or email scrapandplay@rushmore.com to reserve your spot.

Make and Take
Come in Thursday, March 8th to put together this adorable mini layout using the new Miss Caroline collection from My Mind's Eye.
This mini page is 6x6, using elements from the "Dolled Up" line from this collection. Bring a 3x4 photo to put on your layout if you have one you would like to use. This is a great way to see this great line of paper in action.
Use the layout you make to start a mini album, or as the cover as an album...or mat it and put it on your 12x12 paper.

**kits are limited...we will play till it's gone!**

Quick Card share

I wanted to share a couple cards I made. They are quick and easy, but I don't think they look that way.

  1. Stamp a script/ print or small pattern stamp using Brushed Corduroy Distress Ink on white card stock
  2. Using a bold image stamp, ink it up with Versamark Watermark Ink. Just stamping the top and bottom third of the card.
  3. Cover with clear embossing powder and heat.
  4. "Smoosh" some Wild Honey Distress Ink over the embossed area.
  5. Stamp a sentiment in the center. I used Tuxedo Black Memento Ink.
  6. Add this to a card base and you are done!
**when I do my "smooshing" I use a circular motion to add my ink using Ranger's Blending Foam. When I am covering larger areas (not just the edge) I use a firm pressure and use the whole blending foam surface). I apply several layers of color when I want a bold look. I really wanted the embossed image to stand out, so I went over it at least 3 times with the Wild Honey Distress Ink, but not going all the way to the center of the card so it would have a bit of a halo effect.**

Here is another:

This was made very similar to the last one...but even easier! I used patterned paper instead of stamping my own background. All the other steps are exactly the same. To give this a little more "aged" feel, after I heated the embossing powder I bent the card stock in a few places to make it crack. Then I applied Brushed Corduroy Distress Ink over the embossing. The cracks really soaked up the ink, which made them stand out a bit more.

Give it a try, you can have a great card in just a few minutes. You can rub an ink pad across your cheek, glue some paper to your shoulder and walk out with your masterpiece that everyone will think you had to spend hours creating!

Have a wonderful weekend and don't forget to PLAY!!
